Education and Science Communication

Below280 provides training and education in life cycle assessment, environmental product declarations, carbon footprinting, and sustainability for organisations and individuals at every level. Our clients range from sales teams within manufacturing and export businesses through to PhD researchers at universities across Europe and the Middle East.

We deliver training in-person and online, across the UK, Europe, and internationally. Previous clients include KAUST in Saudi Arabia and RENU+ (Durham,, Newcastle and Northumbria Universities) in the UK, and we have delivered workshops in China, across Europe, and throughout the UK.

Science communication and education

Understanding how human activity affects the natural world is not a niche concern. The science of environmental impacts, from climate change and resource depletion through to biodiversity loss and ecosystem damage, needs to reach well beyond specialist audiences. Below280 is actively involved in communicating that science, not just to professionals and researchers, but to anyone who has a stake in the outcome.

We have visited local schools to deliver talks and hands-on experiments, giving students direct exposure to environmental impact science in a way that makes it tangible rather than abstract. We have hosted MSc students on research projects and welcomed PhD students on industrial placements, treating those relationships as genuinely collaborative rather than one-directional. We contribute to the wider scientific community through peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and through conference presentations.

We are also pursuing involvement in COST Actions and similar pan-European research networks, where the goal is building shared understanding across institutions and disciplines rather than simply disseminating conclusions.

None of this is separate from our consultancy and training work. It reflects the same conviction: that better decisions about environmental impacts depend on better understanding of them, and that understanding has to start somewhere.
